Academic
Stuart developed online professional development modules on the topics:

Stuart participated in the following Faculty Strategic Teaching and Learning Grant Scheme (STALGS) projects:

Stuart participated in a university trial of student e-portfolios.

Stuart was an academic adviser for the Professional Development for Casual Academic Staff program.

Stuart was invited to give a presentation to the staff group commencing the unit EEE713 in the Graduate Certificate of Higher Education program on the topic of EEE713 - A survival guide.

Stuart made a presentation at the 2007 Deakin Teaching and Learning Conference on the topic of An evaluation of an Online Student Portfolio for the Development of Engineering Graduate Attributes.

Stuart co-presented at the 2007 Deakin Teaching and Learning Conference on the topic of Scholarly developments in teaching and learning: featuring Deakin case of designing and assessing student group assignments.

Stuart co-presented at the 2007 Deakin Teaching and Learning Conference on the topic of Developing a cross-faculty online self and peer assessment tool for teamwork assignments piloted in Architecture and Business communications.

Stuart co-presented a professional development session for course coordinators from the School of Health and Social Development.

Stuart presented a professional development sessions on SETU and teaching in the Arts Faculty [Note - filesize 6.2 MB].

Research
Stuart was a co-supervisor for Rebecca Allen, a PhD student at the University of Plymouth (UK) investigating the application of simulated laboratory experiments in engineering education.

Stuart retains a strong interest in Frequency Domain Analysis.

Stuart contributed to the analysis of data from a longitudinal survey of students taking wholly online units at Deakin.

Stuart investigated patterns of students usage of an online discussion and their influence on academic results.

Stuart (as a team member with Dale Holt and Christine Spratt) was awarded a $219,000 Carrick Institute Leadership for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Program Grant (for 2009 and 2010) for the project entitled Strategic leadership for institutional teaching and learning centres: developing a model for the 21st century.

Service
Stuart represents ITL on the DSO system management committee.

Stuart represented ITL on the University group work task force.

Stuart was invited to make a presentation on the use of online student portfolios for recording attainment of graduate attributes to the Melbourne Forum of the Carrick Institute-funded Engineering Meta-Attributes Project (EMAP).

Stuart represented ITL at the Victorian regional forum for the Carrick Institute-funded Discipline Based Initiative investigation entitled Rethinking Engineering Education.

Stuart represented Deakin at the Carrick Institute-funded Development of Academics and Higher Education Futures Forum.

Stuart is a manuscript reviewer for the journal Computers and Education.

Stuart is a manuscript reviewer for the journal Computers Applications in Engineering Education.

Stuart is a manuscript reviewer for the Textile Research Journal.

Stuart is a manuscript reviewer for the journal Educational Research and Evaluation.
