2005

Teaching
Stuart is unit chair for the following units:

  • SEB121 Fundamentals of Technology Management; and
  • SEB421/721 Strategic Issues in Engineering.

Additionally, Stuart teaches in the following units:

  • SEB221 Managing Industrial Organisations.

Research
Stuart (along with Xungai Wang) was awarded a $14,000 Central Research Grant for the research project Objective assessment of pilling intensity for nonwovens by image processing.

Stuart (as a team member with Xungai Wang and Lijing Wang) was awarded $521,000 by Australian Wool Innovation for the research project Pilling and Softness of wool fabrics.

Stuart has been awarded funding for an International Studies Program to visit the University of Plymouth in 2006 to conduct collaborative research on the prediction of composite material performance properties from computer image analysis, and, to prepare for publication a series of research papers on off-campus engineering education.

Development/Consulting
Stuart was invited to act as a manuscript referee for the International Journal of Continuing Engineering Education and Lifelong Learning.

Stuart is currently enrolled in the Deakin Graduate Certificate of Higher Education.

Stuart is a manuscript reviewer for the 4th Global Colloquium on Engineering Education.

Stuart is a manuscript reviewer for the Textile Research Journal.

Stuart was interviewed for two case studies for the Deakin Contemporary Online Teaching Cases project:
i)  Using e-journals to encourage critical reflection; and
ii) Video streamed documentary.

Service
Stuart contributes the following service to the School:

  • member of Engineering Academic Advisory Board;
  • member of the School Board
  • School coordinator for DSO (for semester 1);
  • chair of School Academic Progress and Discipline Committee; and
  • School liaison for the Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AaeE).

Stuart was invited to give a presentation on DSO - a teaching perspective as part of orientation for new academic staff.
