Stuart is unit chair, or supervising project students in the following units:

  • SEB221 (teaching one module);
  • SEM227;

  • SEN644 Project Investigation and Evaluation;
  • SEJ343/443 - supervision of 4 Bachelor of Engineering student projects;
  • DTech - co-supervision of one Doctor of Technology candidate.

Research
Stuart is (still) working on his
Doctoral program.

At the 3rd UICEE Conference in Hobart, Stuart presented the paper, Recent developments in management education in Australian engineering undergraduate courses.

In Computers & Education, Stuart published the paper, On- and off-campus computer usage in engineering education, v34, n2, pp 141-154.

In The Business, Education and Technology Journal, Stuart published the paper, Considerations in the design of undergraduate technology management programs for flexible delivery - The case of engineering management, v2, n1, pp 40-45.

With Brian Lloyd, at the 1st International Conference on Systems Thinking in Management in Geelong, Stuart presented the paper, A systems approach to the engineering workforce.

With Christine Spratt and Jo Coldwell, in Educational Technology and Society, Stuart published the paper, Using technologies in teaching: an initiative in academic staff development, v3, n3, pp 455-461.

In The Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice, Stuart published the paper, Student responses to activities designed to develop generic professional skills, v126, n4, pp 180-185.

In The Engineering Management Journal, Stuart published the paper, Management education in Australian engineering undergraduate courses, v12, n3, pp 3-9.

Stuart has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the James N Kirby Foundation to develop multimedia resources to be used in engineering and technology education is primary schools. This project is being undertaken in conjunction with the Victoria Division of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. You can see the work in progress at: www.enged.com.

Stuart has been awarded a $2,500 Seeding Grant from the School for the research project - Longitudinal study of on- and off-campus student academic performance in the School of Engineering and Technology at Deakin University.

Service
Stuart contributes the following service to the School:

  • member of the School Courses Committee;
  • member of the School EEO Committee;
  • member of the University Teaching & Learning Management Plan Action Team for The Global University;
  • assists the School in its collaborative programs with industry; and
  • sometimes acts as the MMM staff management group leader in the absence of Assoc Prof Bob Bathgate.

Professional / Other
Stuart participates in the following professional activities:

Stuart is the current recipient of the 1999 McGraw Hill New Engineering Educator Award from the Australasian Association for Engineering Education.
